Williamsville doctor indicted on more than 100 federal counts

A suburban doctor is being accused of contributing to the opioid problem in Western New York by issuing thousands of illegal prescriptions for controlled substances.

A federal grand jury has returned a 114-count indictment charging Dr. Eugene Gosy of Clarence with conspiracy to distribute controlled substances, unlawful distribution of narcotics, health care fraud and conspiracy to commit health care fraud.

For 10 years, Gosy, a neurologist practicing in Williamsville who describes himself as a pain management doctor, distributed controlled substances, such as fentanyl, oxycodone, morphine and hydrocodone, in return for payments from patients and insurance companies, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
